[瞧電影] 自由大道

My name is Harvey Milk,and I want to recruit you.
電影之初，Milk說道：『我過了四十歲，還沒有作過什麼讓自己自豪的事情！』
於是，他跟Scott來到了卡斯楚街，開啟了他追求平權的政治生涯

甫開始，一切並不順利
連戰連敗，在1970年代，對同性戀者雖說不上仇視
卻也充滿了鄙視

在這樣的環境之下，好不容易Milk選上了，卻也失去了他的摯愛
Scott只能隔著玻璃，望著Milk的從今以後...

然而在Milk身邊，如果少了他們倆（Anne與Cleve）
或許Milk永遠也只是一事無成的男子
尤其是那一次的遊行，Cleve雖然差點讓群眾因為Anita Bryant失控
但若少了他，或許真有暴動呢？
而Anne的運籌帷幄，也讓Milk能夠在從政的路上不致被阻礙

從政的路上，需要同伴，更少不了敵人（同性戀者尤其重要）
Dan，就是這樣一個詭譎的角色，一個背負家庭、選區的前警察
兩個人從相互需要到相互算計，Dan著實影響了Milk的一輩子

電影的最末，Milk與Scott透過電話的對談，再平凡不過
卻讓人感動；而導演同時穿插著Dan赤裸著上身、焦慮的手法
更是為了結尾埋下的伏筆
最後，Milk說的這段話，更點出了其追求平權的宗旨！
I ask this,that if there bean assassination,I would want five, ten,a hundred, a thousand to rise.If a bullet should enter my brain,let it destroy every closet door.I ask for the movement to continue.Because it's not about personal gain,and it's not about ego,and it's not about power.It's about the "us's" out there.Not just the gays but the blacks and the Asians,and the seniors,and the disabled.The "us's."
Without hope,the "us's" give up.And I know you can't live on hope alone.But without hope,life is not worth living.So you,and you,and you,you got to give them hope.
